Story

Even the Government admit that LGBT people continue to face significant barriers to full participation in public life, despite all the advances in equality, and we know that many LGBT young people, experience mental health issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts - and that includes our young people in and around Shrewsbury.

We want to play our part to strip away the barriers that hold LGBT people back - and celebrate LGBT History Month (February 2019).

Our small voluntary organising team has met and we reckon we can put on a great show, with a little help. £1,500 will make sure that it can definitely happen - we have received £430 in offline donations!. Already in the pipeline are: exhibitions, presentations, films, a young people's showcase, an afternoon with Clare Summerskill, who will present a selection of character monologues from her play Rights of Passage created from interviews with LGBT asylum seekers in the UK, and an evening with poet Dean Atta, whose poetry is

as honest as truth itself. He follows no trend; he seeks no favours ... Beyond black, beyond white, beyond straight, beyond gay, so I say.

You can make it happen!
