What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Even the Government admit that LGBT people continue to face significant barriers to full participation in public life, despite all the advances in equality, and we know that many LGBT young people, experience mental health issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts - and that includes our young people in and around Shrewsbury.

We want to play our part to strip away the barriers that hold LGBT people back - and celebrate LGBT History Month (February 2019).

Our small voluntary organising team has met and we reckon we can put on a great show, with a little help. £1,500 will make sure that it can definitely happen. Already in the pipeline are: exhibitions, presentations, films, a young people's showcase, an afternoon with Clare Summerskill, who will present a selection of character monologues from her play Rights of Passage created from interviews with LGBT asylum seekers in the UK, and an evening with poet Dean Atta, whose poetry is

as honest as truth itself. He follows no trend; he seeks no favours ... Beyond black, beyond white, beyond straight, beyond gay, so I say.

You can make it happen!

Not only are donations going up, we are also attracting sponsorship which reduces our costs further! Huge thanks to Coverage Care who have just sponsored the Morning of Presentations on Saturday 9th February. By doing so we can, like snakes and ladders - drop our overall target back £100 to £1,400. This has helped us to hit our 25% target - yay - keep them coming!

Wow, we're overwhelmed by the response to the Crowdfunder - £355 already which is nearly a quarter of the way to our target. We've had loads of lovely comments too which is sooooo lovely! Plans continue for History Month: we'll have 2 exhibitions - one at the Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery - which is fantastic in itself, to have an LGBT exhibition in that beautiful building; and a second in the Gallery at The Hive where our unique History Board collection - with new additions for 2019 - will be on show. More to follow. Please keep sharing!

I am one of the volunteers who organises the festival. We started out on 2015 when we went to the first National Festie in Manchester - they loved what we did and invited us to be one of the very first hubs on 2016 and we have not looked back. This is now a key Shropshire gig!
