Story
Even the Government admit that LGBT people continue to face significant barriers to full participation in public life, despite all the advances in equality, and we know that many LGBT young people, experience mental health issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts - and that includes our young people in and around Shrewsbury.
We want to play our part to strip away the barriers that hold LGBT people back - and celebrate LGBT History Month (February 2019).
Our small voluntary organising team has met and we reckon we can put on a great show, with a little help. £1,500 will make sure that it can definitely happen - we have received £430 in offline donations!. Already in the pipeline are: exhibitions, presentations, films, a young people's showcase, an afternoon with Clare Summerskill, who will present a selection of character monologues from her play Rights of Passage created from interviews with LGBT asylum seekers in the UK, and an evening with poet Dean Atta, whose poetry is
as honest as truth itself. He follows no trend; he seeks no favours ... Beyond black, beyond white, beyond straight, beyond gay, so I say.
You can make it happen!

6 years agoThank you to everyone who contributed, shared, talked about and even thought about Shrewsbury LGBT History Month. Our Crowdfunder raised £577 online and £430 offline with more pledges which should bring us very close to our original £1,500 target. This means we can already confirm venues, presenters and film licences, book accommodation and start designing our publicity - and that there will be yet another high profile positive image LGBT History Month in Shropshire - be very proud. Thank you! Check out the website - it is growing almost daily!

6 years agoWe've just received £330 in offline donations from 4 different sources. This is amazing and means we can reduce our target correspondingly - we're now 44% there. It'd be great to get to half way if you can help by sharing and encouraging people to contribute. Big thanks :)

I am one of the volunteers who organises the festival. We started out on 2015 when we went to the first National Festie in Manchester - they loved what we did and invited us to be one of the very first hubs on 2016 and we have not looked back. This is now a key Shropshire gig!
