Every year HMT Royals Football Club selects a charity to raise money for. This year, we are raising money in support of the people of Sudan, who have suffered through almost two years of war and one of the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the armed conflict has displaced an estimated 14 million people, 53% of whom are children. 10 million of those are internally displaced within Sudan. 25 million people – over half the population, now need humanitarian assistance. Famine conditions have been confirmed in North Darfur's Zamzam camp, and over 755,000 others are on the bring of famine (https://www.ipcinfo.org/fileadmin/user_upload/ipcinfo/docs/IPC_Sudan_Acute_Food_Insecurity_Snapshot_Jun2024_Feb2025.pdf). Sudanese With most schools closed, more than 90% of Sudan's 19 million school-aged children have no access to formal education.

The situation in Sudan and neighbouring countries were Sudanese have been displaced to is fluid, and so there is no one comprehensive charitable destination. This in turn distributes the funds to a range of charities on the ground, including Saving Geneina, Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA), BHO, Hadhreen, Cairo Sudan Aid and Basmat Wasl.
