At the end of December I will be volunteering with the Schoolbox Project in refugee camps based in Athens. The Schoolbox Project literally packs a school into a box, delivers it to where the children are, and then helps volunteers deliver education and play in a thoughtful and mindful way. Many of these children have faced traumatic experiences both in their own countries and in the camps in which they are forced to live. The majority have been out of school for years and lack any kind of outlet or mental stimulation with their childhoods at risk of being lost forever. During my two weeks in Athens, I will be specifically focusing on working with Afghan children and their families providing interpreting services for which there is a very urgent need. The money that I raise will in part go towards my living expenses and flights (most of this will be self-funded). However, I plan on giving the majority of the money to the purchase of supplies for the children and for the general upkeep of the Schoolbox Project. Coverage of the refugee crises may have dissipated with the passing of months but this does not mean the situation has been resolved and that there aren’t people still living in tragically harsh circumstances. We have all won the lottery living comfortable lives in the UK. I know we are all keenly aware of this fact every time a headline catches our eye. To show gratitude please help me be of assistance to people less fortunate than we are. Any donation big or small will be most gratefully received. It may seem like a small undertaking in the sea of woes that is the refugee crisis but every donation made will go towards bringing some peace and relief to the little people who are affected the most in this tragedy.
