Story
Over just eight days, Alonso, Elena, Liliana, Luke and Chris will be walking the final 180 kilometres of the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain. It’s going to be an exhausting walk of 22.5 kilometres each day but we hope it will help us to raise much-needed funds for Hoguera, a charity that is close to all of our hearts.
For people with a disability and their families in Colombia, life can be a constant struggle to access the help they need and gain acceptance. Despite progressive legislation, those with a disability are often perceived as being sick and unable to make a meaningful contribution to society. It’s time that stopped.
Money raised will be used to further develop diversity and inclusion education courses and workshops to transform the negative images and false beliefs about people with disabilities in Colombia and continue the charity’s work to make equal access to information, health services, education and work opportunities a normal part of life for people with disabilities.
Please help us make our journey count
About Alonso, Elena, Liliana, Luke and Chris

About Hoguera

Founded in 2015, Hoguera is a network, comprised mainly of Colombians and British people of different ethnicities and beliefs, working together for the dignity of people with disabilities and the recognition of their human rights.
It is helping to transform the lives of people living with a disability in Colombia by raising awareness about their rights and by building opportunities for their inclusion in society.
It provides meaningful social inclusion activities, therapeutic programmes, training, volunteering opportunities and support groups for families and carers. It’s work is carried out mainly in the Metropolitan area of Medellín, where volunteers work side by side with people with disabilities and their families and carers to improve access to social support, health, recreation, information, education and work opportunities.
In the UK, Hoguera promotes an international understanding of the needs of people with disabilities, shares good practice and promotes an international exchange of resources and skills. It also raises funds to continue the vital work in Colombia.
