FC United of Manchester is a community football club owned and democratically run by its 5,000 members. The club was founded in 2005 and is a semi-professional football club, currently playing in the Vanarama National League North. Putting supporters at the heart of everything it does, FC United is unlike other football clubs; it aims to change the way that football is owned and run to show that a successful football club can indeed run smoothly with its supporters at the helm. Allowing the club to be fan-owned creates a movement in the football industry whereby democratic clubs can exist and compete against professional clubs with a high level of skill and talent.
