    Story

Hi. I am Holly Illing and I am passionate about education and sport and how it can enrich peoples lives in so many ways. I love helping others through teaching and coaching sports and an opportunity has arisen to help children in Africa enhance their education and experiences through sport. Through my school "Bourne Community College" and the organisation "Plan My Gap Year" I am volunteering in February 2024 in Ghana, to help community projects and children through teaching games and renovating school facilities to create long term benefits.

I would very much like to help the project by volunteering for 15 days and to do so I need your help in raising £2,000 to help fund the trip and donate directly to the projects. Firstly, I am donating all of my coaching money I earn to the fund, (I am a Community Hockey Coach in local schools and Coach Football as I am part of the England Football Leadership Academy). I will also be raising money through cake sales (I love baking!) at sporting fixtures and doing gardening work for some elderly friends and my Grandma.

I have been really inspired by family and friends who have set themselves incredible personal challenges as part of their fund raising activities and so I have set myself a goal of Running, Walking, Cycling, Swimming, Canoeing and probably crawling at the end!, the distance from Emsworth to Ghana totalling 4,760 km. I started my journey in March and my goal is to cross the finish line by 27th January 2024. I am currently on target with fund raising and distance covered, tracking all my daily Kilometres on my Fitbit and my Dad and I are logging my progress on a route map.

If you would like to help simply share this page. If you buy one of my healthy cupcakes from me at a sports event thank you. If you are able to make a donation that would be amazing and everyone would be very grateful and I know your money will make a difference to the community and a child's life.

    Thank you

    Holly

Home safely after an incredible, rewarding, uplifting & emotional volunteer expedition to Ghana Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past year of my fund raising! The Ghanaian children have been supported in class & delighted to see all volunteers On arriving at the school i could not get into the classroom as 7 children ran up to me to give me a huge long hug They were so pleased to have all their classrooms decorated & loved all the teaching aids we gave them I will never forget their gratitude & their happy smily faces

I have now been in Ghana for a week on her Charity Volunteer Expedition, teaching in the school in Kumasi and visiting some villages outside of the city. All the clothes / educational toys etc we brought to Ghana were given to incredibly grateful families and children and I wanted to let everyone know who has kindly supported me that it has helped these communities in many ways. More teaching and renovation work this week at the school. Thankyou to everyone! Love Holly xx
