Story

When i was 17 i was diagnosed with epilepsy after my life was turned upside down whilst getting ready for work one morning i dropped to floor in my bedroom and had my first ever tonic clonic seizure which was terrifying. For years i was misdiagnosed from the age as young a 14 of what is now believed after a constant battle for years with my neurologist in wales who just kept putting me on more and more antiepileptic drugs after i had a seizure at one point being on 14 different antiepileptic drugs ending up in a wheelchair unable to feed myself and speak properly due to being overdosed on antiepileptics and even then my seizures were still then so out of control i have never been seizure free. My parents were really sick of the way i was being treated they needed a second opionion i literally spent months in and out of different hospitals having various stressful neurological tests such as eegs, Video telemeterys, photosensivty testing, MRI scans, CT scans various brain scans waiting helplessly for the dreaded results as well as having alot of blood tests, ecgs, consultations etc so now was the right time to say enough was enough and my parents began their battle with my consultant to get my transferred to one of the best places i have been for my epilepsy the Sir William gowers Unit in Chalfont st peter. Now 4 years down the line i am currently undergoing treatment at the Sir William Gowers Unit in Chalfont under the care of Dr Ferguss Rugg-Gunn one of the top leading neurological consultants in the world. Since i have been under the care of him he has changed all my medication i am now on 3 high doses of different epilpsy drugs as well as many other tablets to keep me healthy. I have had many different neurological tests such as repeated MRI scans, eegs, photosensitivity tests, genetic testing , testing out new equipment, video telemeterys and more as well as repeated bloods, doctors meetings and consultations every friday with Dr Rugg-Gunn and appointments with my physciastrist and physcologist everyone here at the chalfont centre right the way through from health care assistants, nurses, doctors and consultants have all been absoloutly fantastic theyve helped me through so much its a long road theres no recovery or cure but there is now light at the ending of this dark tunnel. I cant thank everyone here enough i feel so fortunate to be able to say im under the care of chalfont. Although my seizures are still not completly under control they are better.

To show my many thanks and grattitude to The Sir William Gowers Centre i will be fundraising and running the cardiff half marathon for this amazing place to raise money for them to say thankyou and to help in the develpmont of futher epilpsy treatments. I am asking you all to donate to such a good cause! Just £10 -£35 can change a person with epilepsy life.
