Story
Holly has Cystic Fibrosis-every day since she was born she has struggled with the disease and fought ill health and disability. Sadly, Holly lost her partner Greg to the same disease in 2010. After 4 years of being single, at Christmas 2013 she finally met "the one"; Ricky, a strong, strapping lad and keen football player who could look after her.
In September 2015 he proposed and they began planning their dream wedding. But in Dec 15 Ricky became ill out of the blue and by Feb 16 just weeks after booking the wedding he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Suddenly they were looking at an uncertain future for both of them with ill-health, hospitals and hardship threatening their dreams of careers, having their own home and starting a family. Despite all of this this they have both battled to stay in work, but Ricky was put on the kidney transplant waiting list earlier this year and is now on dialysis 4 times a week and Holly continues to deal with her failing health.
There is some good news though; Ricky's Mum has proven to be a suitable match and will be donating one of her kidneys to him! However, this means that they will be losing income, using up sickness leave, holiday and unpaid leave at work, and are facing a really tough time to stay in the house they rent and to make ends meet. The only way to get any benefits would be to give up their jobs but this would mean losing everything at a time when they need stability the most and they have both worked so hard to stay at work despite many challenges and feeling constantly unwell.
We believe these two very brave and stoic young people have been dealt a tough hand and so In order to help make the stressful and worrying period of Ricky's operation and recovery a little bit easier we would like to raise enough money to pay for Holly's accommodation close to Addenbrookes Hospital plus travel costs etc.and maybe a little bit more!!
We hope you think so too!
Many thanks
