We are blessed at Hollygirt to have such wonderfully atmospheric Victorian buildings in which our pupils can experience our homely environment.
We purchased the property in 1972 for a snip at £17,500 and spent 8 years getting the required planning permissions and making it fit for our school use (at a cost of a further £27,500), finally moving the Junior School here in 1980. How splendid it looked after the works!
You may have noticed the scaffolding appear on our Junior School and wondered what we are up to?
Now, sadly, the roof is showing signs of age. It has started leaking and we need to take urgent action to avoid further deterioration. On inspection we decided that the best course of action was to re-slate the whole roof, and while we were up there, to do some other remedial works at high level to maintain the appearance of this handsome Villa Road property. Clearly these sort of works come at an enormous cost, beyond the normal maintenance and repairs budget, so we are asking if you would like to help us by sponsoring a slate, or a whole row of slates, to help us out?
The roofing contract has been awarded to Ray Stephenson, who is an experienced roofer with experience of working on many Nottingham schools and who has recently undertaken the work on Bromley House Library, a listed building in the centre of town. He comes highly recommended. The works will be taking place from half term until Easter.
Thank you for your support.
