    Story

UPDATE: I'm currently in discussions with several organisations who can help me work out the safest and most helpful way to ensure this money is used to bring positive change to these people's lives. I'm sure many of you kind-hearted folk can understand that the situation is not simple, and I want you to be sure that I am doing everything in my power to make sure this situation doesn't become dangerous for anyone involved. Once I can give you all more information, I will, so please check back here for updates on how the money will be used. Thank you for your generosity and patience.

I also want to add that I am taking steps to put a 'pause' on the fundraising whilst we work all this out, and also kindly ask that the media respect the privacy of all involved. I've also decided not to talk to any media for a while as the amount of attention this is getting I'm sure is overwhelming for everyone involved.

A million thanks again for everyone who has donated.

    Love, Jess

Cambridge is a place of extraordinary inequality. Yesterday, on the 23rd of December, a homeless woman gave birth to twins prematurely outside Trinity College, the wealthiest college in the city.

Passers-by called an ambulance and she and her babies were transferred to the Rosie hospital to receive care. I've started this fundraiser to see if we can get a little going towards helping her care for herself and her children at the darkest, coldest time of the year.

Childbirth should be an exciting time of joy and wonder. Imagine giving birth alone on the pavement, in the shadow of the richest college in Cambridge. If you have anything you can spare for this woman, please give generously. Whether we are religious or not, many of us will be familiar with the Christmas story of a mother who gave birth to her child in poverty, seeking refuge in a stable. This is the reality for many people living on the streets.

The roots of homelessness in this country go deep, but we can start at home, with those in need on our doorstep. Please give what you can, to make this festive season a little brighter.

(I've been in contact with Cambridge News, who ran the story. You can read it here: https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/homeless-woman-birth-premature-twins-17471458?fbclid=IwAR0mrYnStTZadJBZgHjv9gTYsLH8tUFMjjw0cZH5oWgKYsrKpyYv-LpaTso . They don't have the name of the woman, but are happy to give the fundraiser some publicity. We will reach out to the Rosie hospital, who should be able to get the funds to the patient in question whilst keeping her privacy. If for some reason this isn't possible, everyone will have their donations returned. Merry Christmas!)

I just wanted to post an update so that you know I haven't forgotten about this! Thank you again for your patience. I'm reaching out again to the folks at StreetAid who the council tell me have got a list of options now. And I've sent another email to justgiving to ensure the money continues to be safeguarded until we are ready; I don't want to withdraw a penny before I can tell you exactly where it's going. I want to reiterate my amazement and respect for everyone who works in homeless services. It's invaluable work.

Happy New Year! I'm so grateful to have so many qualified individuals working on this. A contact in Street Aid is making a list of possible options, my acquaintance in Women's Aid is in conversation with social care and I've heard back from the council to say they are also in the loop and reviewing our options. I should hear back with a more definitive list next week! I hope your new year begins brilliantly; I am doing all I can so that your kind donations can mean the same for this woman and her babies. Jess x

Hi all! Daily update. In conversation with the helpful folks at Cambridge Women's Aid. They let me know that the council are working with this woman and getting her housed etc is a priority right now (as it should be). I am talking to them tomorrow, but understand that working out how donations will be managed will not be the immediate concern. Whilst the page is 'frozen' it means that your donations are secure whilst the discussions are happening. I can't believe we smashed £25,000. Stay posted for more ❤️❤️

This is a very kind thing to set up & organise. Thank you and well done. I hope it works out and that the mother & twins are safe and well. I hope you're ok too. What you're doing is so import. x
