Weʼre raising £3,000 to enable homeless people to receive housing and support

Story

There is always a reason behind why someone becomes homeless, and there is no simple “one size fits all” solution.

Simply providing a home (bricks and mortar) to someone is not enough, because the original reasons for becoming homeless will usually lead to a re-occurrence of the homelessness a few months later. Personal tailored support is vital for a successful outcome. Providing housing without support is setting the person up to fail. This is why we put so much emphasis on providing support to each and every resident.

To provide one homeless person with an average of 3 hours of personal support per week would require around £80.00 per week. If that support can be funded, then the homeless person can be provided with the supported accommodation that they so desperately need. This is the most cost effective way to help people move out of homelessness, and move on towards independent living.

Choice Housing Trust is a regulated not-for-profit organisation that provides supported accommodation to homeless people, mainly in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. It has provided homes for over 550 homeless people and continues to help homeless people across the region. The number of people we can help is only limited by the amount of support that we can fund, so we are appealing to you to donate to this worthwhile cause.

We currently receive no government grants towards this work, so are reliant on individual donations, and trading activities, to fund the support that we provide to residents.

    Update from the Page owner

It has taken a long time to get this far, but we are just 17% short of our target. I want to thank all our wonderful supporters for their generosity and best wishes, and ask that they share this campaign with their online contacts so that we can reach this funding target. Every £ donated is used to help the homeless, and we are making a real and substantial positive difference to people's lives. Thank you Choice Housing Trust

    Update from the Page owner

We are a quarter of the way to our target, so please share the appeal with as many people as possible and post in your social media groups. Every donation matters, and people can donate anonymously if they wish. Thank you.

I have been homeless in the past and I understand the problems that can cause homelessness and the support that people often need to break the cycle of repeat homelessness. This is the reason why I feel so passionate about providing supported housing.
