There are hundreds homeless dogs in my hometown Heraklion, Crete. Some of them, the lucky enough, are partially taken care of local residents or tourists who feed them occasionally.
The rest, however, have to survive on their own, eating rubbish from the street bins until they starve to death or get hit by a car.
With a society hit by the financial crisis severely, neither the local council nor the community have the funds to help these souls find a shelter and live a decent life.
The amount gathered from the kind donations from everyone in this page, these dogs will have a chance to live in a shelter, at least for the winter and get the right medical care, until the moment they get lucky enough to get adopted.
