Story

I will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime in the summer of 2018 to the Indian Himalaya’s. I am going with 13 other friends and two teachers from my school and it is managed by organisers World Challenge Expeditions. It will encourage us to learn about responsibility, leadership, planning, teamwork and include both physical and emotional challenges.

The key difference between a World Challenge expedition and other school trips is that it is designed to be student-led, providing an experience which places students in a strong position to make the most of our future careers. We will depart for the Indian Himalaya’s accompanied by our teachers and a World Challenge Leader who is responsible for ensuring the safety of our team.

We will alternate roles such as leader, accountant, cook, health and safety officer and transport coordinator to operate efficiently as a team. During the 4 week expedition, we will complete acclimatisation, trek, project and rest and relaxation phases with the detail of the itinerary being created by ourselves over the forthcoming months. We are particularly focusing our efforts on the project phase to ensure we contribute to the needs of the community as much as possible, this will include either renovating a local school, establishing a clean water supply or working on conservation.

I am looking forward to this life changing experience and as part of the programme we have to independently raise funds towards the cost. My objective is to raise £2000 in various ways. I hope to organise a teenage party at Christmas and abseil at the Manchester Velodrome next year.
