Story
Lila was recently diagnosed with Humeral Intracondylar Fissures in both elbow joints. This was discovered after she sustained an injury in her left elbow and took longer than she should have to recover. She is currently in emergency surgery, having a pin put into her left elbow. In 6 weeks time she will need the same procedure in her right. Part of the complications of this procedure is that at some point in the future, due to continuous stress put onto the joint, this pin could snap and will need replacing. As the condition is genetic, her bone will never fuse together and without the treatment, this could develop into a Y-fracture which requires a much more complex procedure.
During her visit and CT scan today, a further problem was discovered in her hip that she will need treatment for relatively soon.
As I adopted Lila with my ex partner, we decided to continue to split costs between us, while I took on full-time care of her. Her insurance was taken out under his name, so I would send him monthly payments and he kept the direct debit going. Unfortunately, it has recently come to light that the insurance was cancelled sometime last year, after my ex partner missed a payment and did not notice. He is now unable/unwilling to contribute a substantial amount for her treatment. He has offered just less than the costs owed to me for the cancelled insurance that I had been sending him money for over this past year.
I have since taken a policy out in my name, but it will not cover her for pre-existing conditions within two years of taking the policy out. This means it may cover her for a replacement screw and her hip treatment will have to be self-funded too (I have not included this one in the fundraiser as it is a separate issue).
