Story
Our beautiful granddaughter, Harper, is just two years old and has already shown more strength and courage than most of us will show in a lifetime.
At the start of August Harper wasn't feeling too well and, after many visits to the GP and A&E, a visit to the SpecSavers store in Stafford sounded the alarm bells. A brain scan identified a large tumour which was quickly removed via surgery by the brilliant Mr William Lo and his team at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
A week later George and Laura, Harpers parents, received the news that no family wants to hear. Harper was diagnosed with brain cancer and, after a wonderful week at home Harper, was back at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, at the end of August, where she will be living for the next six months as she undergoes her chemotherapy treatment.
George and Laura, are incredibly proud and have always been reluctant to ask for help. But as they face such an uncertain future, we would like to create this fund as a safety net—for the extra costs and challenges that come with months of hospital stays and to support Harper in her recovery after treatment.
We know times are tough for everyone, and we ask only with humility and hope. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and will only ever be used when it is truly needed. If, by good fortune, the fund is not required in full, the remaining balance will be shared between the cancer charities who have already given so much support to Harper and her family.
Harper is a little fighter, full of light, and she is already inspiring all of us with her bravery. Together, we can ease some of the burden for George and Laura so that they can focus on what matters most—being there for their daughter.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all your messages, offers of help and support and the outpouring of affection received. The kindness, generosity, and hope shown so far is truly heartwarming.
For those who would like to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital directly, Harper also has a fundraising page through JustGiving.
💜 With love and gratitude,
