Story

Part of what I'm doing now in Thessaloniki includes distributing food to homeless refugees in the city. The majority of the beneficiaries of this service are young single men from Algerian, Afghani and Pakistani backgrounds. These men are the least likely to have asylum granted as priority goes to Syrian people and then women, children, and families.

The men live in abandoned buildings on the outskirts of the city and attempt to flee across the border to Macedonia almost daily. The demographic is constantly changing as some are successful in leaving and new people are arriving in Greece every day- with all the camps full to capacity and the services at breaking point there is nowhere for them to go.

Those who are living in these abandoned structures arrive at the distribution point covered in mosquito bites which often get infected due to a lack of treatment or over itching. Having spoken to the Doc Mobile Team that assists us at distribution I was told that the best thing we can provide for these men other than food is mosquito spray and cream to protect themselves. Not only will this improve their comfort a little in such conditions, but it will also decrease the risk to their health.

Although the cost of the spray is relatively low the numbers of the men who need such aid are not, and so I have set the target high so as to help as many people as possible. Please donate what you can to help these men to whom such few services are provided here in Greece.
