Story
Last year, Charity, a much loved member of our research team in Uganda had to have her leg amputated in very difficult circumstances.
Although she has been navigating this new reality with great strength, she continues to face obstacles on the path to recovery.

Charity's family have no means to financially support her, and in Uganda, there is no state support for medical care, even for the loss of a limb. Thanks to the generosity of previous donors, we have covered the costs of her surgery and initial physio, food and housing while she recovers, and for a prosthetic limb to help restore her mobility.
I spent time with Charity when i visited Uganda in February. While Charity is making progress, she is not yet able to work and has no means to support her recovery
Thanks to donations, Charity is now receiving rehabilitative care at a fantastic local organisation that provide her the support she needs to start her life again. As Charity is at a criticial point in her recovery, we are reaching out to ask for your support -
The funds will be used for:
- Physiotherapy and training with the prosthetic leg, including for transportation to relevant appointments
- Safe, secure and stable housing during her rehabiliation
- Support from a specialist nurse who assists her with her daily needs
- Access to a peer counselor, also an amputee, who is now living a happy and fulfilled life again
- Residential care at a psychosocial rehabiliation facility, where she receives a complete package of support to process the challenges of her amputation and build her path ahead

Charity is intelligent, compassionate, thoughtful, and deeply kind. We are asking for support as she rebuilds her life and works towards independence and employment
Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a real difference. Thank you for standing with her.
