    Story

Hoppers Hospital is a historic building set in Five Oak Green, Kent, dating back to 1600's. Recently, during Storm Ciara and without warning, flood waters entered the building causing major damage to the flooring, walls, furniture and outside areas. Unfortunately the water was contaminated with oil, so wherever the water flowed, the oil went too. As a charity we rely on the income of groups coming to stay at Hoppers and until the refurbishment is complete we cannot have group or families use the facilities. The work required to bring Hoppers back to a habitable state is likely to take up to 6 months. What we really need to protect Hoppers for the future is some decent flood defence and that is what we are fundraising for.

Hoppers continues to dry out and many dehumidifiers now occupy the space on the ground floor as well as many air movers (fans) to help circulate the air and encourage the moisture out of the walls and flooring. Once the moisture has been disturbed it is removed by the dehumidifiers. I am surprised that there is still water dribbling out of the tubes from the dehumidifiers, although not as much, but still it's surprising after 9 weeks. Our contractors visit once a week to take moisture readings from various areas of the building.

Thank you for your hard work. I have lived in the village for 17 years and was very sad to hear about the damage to the Hoppers. Well done.
