Story
Help to protect Hoylake Beach for future generations.
Hoylake beach has been at the heart of Hoylake and its community for hundreds of years.
We need to raise £25,000 to cover the legal costs of trying to register Hoylake Beach as a Village Green to give it the best possible protections as an amenity space for future generations.
Hoylake Beach is a much loved and well used recreational space for amenity and has been a focal point for community events and recreational activities for many years. It hosts the annual charity Tug of War on Boxing Day and Bonfire night celebrations each year. It is the only place the public can access Golden sand amenity space which helps to promote ‘Blue health’ and mental wellbeing for locals and visitors alike.
HBC (Hoylake Beach Community) has campaigned for beach restoration for 5 years and we should not have to wait any longer, legal action is imperative now. HBC has a dedicated team of local volunteers who are ready to act.
Village Green status would give a very high level of protections for today and for future generations and will stop the beach becoming inaccessible for recreation, it will ensure that the beach remains a space for people to enjoy going forward. This application to become a Village Green is supported by a huge majority of the local community and visitors, who have given a huge show of support for the application. But there are complex legal arguments to be made if we are to win.
Wirral Borough Council (WBC) have objected to the application. To pursue a Village Green we will need to take this application to a tribunal with significant associated legal costs and so we are asking for your help. All donations big or small will be gratefully received.
