Help The Homeless Glasgow - Annual Sleep On The Street Event

Saturday 3rd December 2022 9pm-6am Sauchiehall Street

Join us this year at our Sleep On The Street Event to raise awareness for those experiencing homelessness and to also raise vital funds so that HTHG can continue our vital work supporting those in need of a wee helping hand!

About Us:

Help The Homeless Glasgow is a community group that was established in December 2016. HTHG is made up of a group of volunteers from all walks of life who give up as much of their free time as possible around their daily family lives, employment and further education.

What was once a very small operation, it has now expanded and evolved in a way to best support those experiencing homelessness and hardship in our city.

Our main activities at present are:

***Pop-Up Soup Kitchens***

Our Pop-Up Soup kitchens occur every second Saturday. We have 2 set up in different locations within the city centre, Sauchiehall Street across from Costa Coffee, and M&S Argyle Street, as well as 2-3 walking groups who walk the length and breadth of the city centre to try and engage with those who do not visit our tables. The aim of this is to link in with as many people as possible who may be experiencing homelessness. accommodated or not, to provide basic essentials and signpost to the relevant agencies for help and assistance that they may need.

***HTHG Furniture Project***

Over the last 3-4 years we have assisted thousands of people who have moved on to their own tenancies from temporary accommodation and also supported individuals in the community. We do this by sourcing essential household items that is needed to make a house a home for those who may have been refused or given very little from the Scottish Welfare Fund.

We accept referrals for assistance with household goods via Care Managers, Casework Team, Addiction Workers, Support Workers, Housing Officers, Social Work, Temporary Accommodation Services and several other agencies. We can be contacted through this page or requests can be emailed to: helpthehomelessglasgow@outlook.com

**Furniture Donations**

If you have household goods that are in good working order and wish to donate, please contact Jim Harrison (Admin) with what you have and he will be able to tell you what is needed and what we have space to take. Jim will request photos of your item/s due to the countless times that we have turned up and picked some things up that have been broken or unusable condition and we have been left to dispose of, so please do not get offended if photos have been requested. Also it is important to mention that collection of any donations of furniture will always be in the evenings after we finish our day jobs. Very rarely are we able to collect during daytime hours.

***Regular Rough Sleeper Counts***

We have been conducting regular Rough sleeper Counts for a few years now. This is where we go into the city centre early hours in the morning once the pubs and clubs are closed to ascertain how many people are sleeping rough. Assistance and advice is given to everyone we come across. Anton Reilly works in the town most mornings, if you have any concerns, contact him and he will go and check in on the person when he can, alternatively you can contact the Simon Community Street Team for assistance.
