    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.

    Story

At Hub Packaging we are dedicated to making the world a better place and we will help in any way we can to make that possible. Through our charity work we have chosen to support MASICORP Charity from October to March. MASICORP supports the township of Masiphumelele, near Cape Town in South Africa where more than 38,000 people live in shacks in an area just over one square kilometre. Since 1999, their work has made a proven difference to the lives of people in Masiphumelele.

Their primary focus is education — the surest route out of poverty. Projects cover pre-school to adult learners. They also support community entrepreneurs in small business development. To raise some money for them we have decided to do a sponsored weight loss, a challenge we felt we needed!

Why weight loss we hear you cry, well put simply, have you seen us?! In the past year, 4 members of the Hub Team have lost 219lbs between them. The same weight as a baby elephant! (Maybe this is why we need to recruit another member of staff) 7 other team members that were willing/forced to join us will be helping the team lose a collective 100lbs this November!!

We've had our weigh in and are very pleased to share that the team has lost a total (drumroll please) of 35lbs! That's 2.5 stone!! We are well on our way to the target of 100 lbs. However, seeing its someones birthday, we did sneak in a little chocolate cake! Happy Birthday Paul! We will have to burn it off tonight!

Firstly a massive Thank You to all that have donated! It really make a big difference, we have so far raised enough for the education of one child ($100) and to help train a pre-school assistant ($15). With the first week well under way, we have all weighed in and realised that either the scales were malfunctioning or we seriously underestimated the task ahead. To help, our very own Kevin Purdy has helpfully compiled this list of weight-loss tips for us to ignore: http://hub-packaging.com/weight-loss-tips/

They say the best way to lose 10 ugly pounds is to cut off your head; (i disagree completely with that and wouldn't recommend it) Anyhow, WTG on shedding those stones!! Keep it up! or keep it off ;-)'
