Hope in Humanity – Emergency Fundraiser for Gazan Children

“Children are the most innocent form of life – it is our job to protect them, nurture them and yield them as they are the future”

Many of us continue to see the heart-breaking images, videos and news reports of the atrocities in Gaza. With reports of now around 45,000 Palestinians killed since the war [1], 1.9 million Palestinians (about 90% of Gaza’s population) internally displaced and without access to vital food and aid [2], it is official that a humanitarian crisis has been declared.

Sadly, the devastation caused by bombings as well as blockades to humanitarian aid [3], mean that millions in Gaza are facing deadly health emergencies, with children being most at risk. 44% of Palestinians killed since October 7th 2023 are children, which (according to Oxfam’s research) means that more children are reported to have been killed in the war in Gaza than in four years of conflict around the world.

Also, out of the 1.9 million Palestinians who are currently displaced, half of them are children – many of whom have been orphaned, displaced and/or injured. Gazan children have been declared at most risk of dying from malnutrition, with 8000 children being declared as severely malnourished according to the United Nations [4] and 60,000 children estimated to require vital support for malnutrition in 2025 alone [5].

If we don’t take action know, it is predicted that many of those children will lose their lives if they do not receive the urgent care that they need to fight malnutrition.

Established in 2001, HuDA (Human Development Association) is a Gazan-based humanitarian association who have been serving as a key point of support for many injured, displaced and malnourished Gazans. Operating on a noble 100% donations policy, HuDA have been serving as a key point of medical, food and social care to thousands of displaced, injured and destitute victims of the war – most of which are children who have been orphaned by the war. UNICEF reports that 17,000 children have been orphaned if not unaccompanied or separated from their parents since the war [6]. It is HuDA’s mission to support these children and minimise the impact of the devastation they have experienced.

Despite recent bombings which have caused devastating destruction caused to the organisation’s headquarters, HuDA has managed to relocate their service to a new building in a safer region, to continue providing vital aid to people of Gaza, whose lives have been torn apart by the war.

Additionally, through collaboration with other grass-roots organisations, HuDA has helped to provide community mental-health based and educational programmes games for children impacted by the war, to support their wellbeing. This has been key in promoting the children’s educational wellbeing, giving them a wholesome community space away from the war, while honing their talents and nurturing their skills. Their aim is to give hope and joy to the children in the region, many of which will have been orphaned, displaced or injured due to the war. We believe that they deserve the right to an enjoyable and happy remainder of their childhood, no matter how long or short it may be.

OUR HOPE AND MISSION:

Through a 100% donations policy, we are hoping to raise £3000 to source the vital medical and food supplies needed to save these children’s lives.

With your kind donations, we can:

-Source vital means of care for children such as nappies, medicine and clothes for children and babies

-Key life-saving care packages centred around battling malnutrition

-Key educational programmes and resources (like the one shown above) which provide a healthy and therapeutic space for Gazan children in spite of the war.

With just £1, which is the equivalent of 4.78 Israeli Shekel, you can buy

3x nappies

3x warm nutritious meals

Which will help to save the children of Gaza.

This can all be made possible with your generosity in donating whatever you can. Together, let’s give Gazan children a hope for the future.

Here are some heart-warming images of the project’s work in action, some showing the children receiving the vital care packages that the organisation provides. Other images show the Palestinian children (many of whom have been displaced, orphaned etc,) enjoying the engaging educational workshops provided by the organisation. Their joy is one like no other.

With the current situation, it is possible that some children in the images may no longer be with us. However, through providing vital aid, let’s continue to give those remaining children a hope for the future.
