Story
Who?
Huquqyat is a Syrian civil society organization dedicated to achieving meaningful accountability for the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Syria since the uprising in 2011. ‘Huquqyat’ translates to ‘women legal practitioners’ in Arabic, reflecting the heart of our mission. We are a membership-based organization of women lawyers and legal practitioners working tirelessly to achieve justice in Syria. We are committed to creating a transformative justice framework for the country, one that is both developed and implemented through the equal representation and participation of Syrian women.
What?
The fall of the Syrian regime has set in motion new opportunities and challenges for accountability in Syria—and highlighted the urgency of legal work and advocacy inside and outside of the country. However, recent cuts in funding have threatened our ability to continue this critical work. With the stakes higher than ever, these financial challenges could halt our momentum at a time when justice and accountability are paramount.
In response, Huquqyat is launching a crowdfunding initiative to ensure that we can maintain and expand our efforts. Your support is vital to sustaining our fight for justice. By contributing, you empower Syrian women to continue leading legal work, investigations, and accountability proceedings that are crucial for Syria’s future.
