Shrewsbury Bookfest: Book Award 2022

In August 2021 Sophie and Huw are hoping to complete a 14 day bike ride to cover the 1,000 miles between Land's End and John o' Groats.

Excited at the prospect of leaving Shrewsbury, but slightly daunted by the challenge ahead, we're hoping to raise £2,000 for a local charity that is very close to our hearts, Shrewsbury Bookfest.

We are raising money for the 2022 Shrewsbury Bookfest Book Award - a reading-for-pleasure initiative (running for the 7th time) that now reaches over 2,000 primary school pupils across Shropshire.

Teachers have talked about the disruptive effect that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on children's speaking and listening skills during the lockdowns.

To develop skills to counter this, the Book Award 2022 project is teaming up with Pentabus Theatre to introduce a new workshop that will equip children to improvise, devise and script drama in response to literature. The resulting creative responses by the children will be entered into a new county-wide competition.

The whole project costs around £32k to deliver, 50% of funds come from school contributions and the balance has to be found from fund-raising activities and charitable foundations.

We're very grateful for any support that you're able to offer this very worthwhile cause, which has inspired and lifted previous cohorts of Shropshire children.
