Story

Hyndburn Baby Bank started life as Hyndburn Baby Boxes in January 2020. Started by Councillor Kate Walsh, Kate's aim as a new mother herself, was to ensure that no matter what the circumstances, no mother should start her journey with any less than another.

Kate designed a baby box full of essential items for a new baby and their mummy. Including everything from nappies to breast pads. Little things like hand creams and deodorants to help mum feel good and almost everything a newborn could need too.

As time moved on a few referrals a month came in via midwives and social media, donations piled into the various donation boxes dotted around Hyndburn and everything was going beautifully well.

Then we were hit by Covid-19. The Hyndburn Hub was set up to help the residents of Hyndburn to cope with the change and demand brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, and now directs all of its baby related referrals to the Hyndburn Baby Bank.

As the demand for help has dramatically increased over the last few weeks so has the demand on funding. Hyndburn Baby Bank can no longer manage on the wonderful donations from the community and something more is needed. The impact of Covid-19 on the finance's and well being of some of our community has been detrimental, and more and more new mums are coming to us for help.

I understand that in day to day life especially in lockdown, most people that want to help but just cant find seem to find the time. Our generously donated items, brought to our collection points, are also limited by lockdown. So I have set up this fundraiser as an easier way for our community to get behind Hyndburn Baby Bank and raise some much needed funds to help the people who need it the most.

We are extending this support to help to provide lunches for children during the holidays, whether entitled to FSM or not, we believe that every child is equal and that no child should ever be hungry.
