Story
HyNot has applied for a Judicial Review of the government's decision to allow the oil and gas giant Eni, to store carbon dioxide under the sea in Liverpool Bay. This carbon dioxide would be a by-product from the production of "clean" blue hydrogen from fossil fuel gas at Stanlow and collected from other industrial processes as part of the HyNet project.
We believe the whole HyNet project is full of greenwash - locking us into climate damaging imported fossil fuels and reducing UK energy security. Carbon capture and storage is untried and unproven at this scale, its safety is uncertain and it is a distraction from the real carbon cutting action which is needed.
Through the generosity of environmental benefactors we have already raised over £70,000 towards our legal costs but we are aiming to raise another £30,000 to cover unexpected legal costs and publicity materials
