I've raised £2000 to donate to two registered Cancer charities ......by doing something a little different

After losing her Dad, David to cancer in Sept 2017, my wife, Samantha, was given the devastating news that she would have her own battle to fight. On the 4th Nov 2017 following a womb biopsy, she was given the diagnosis of womb cancer, serious Adenocarcinoma of the endometrium, high grade cancer. It was caught at Stage 1. This resulted in a full radical hysterectomy. This means the womb, cervix, ovaries and pelvic lymph nodes had to be removed. This was the 8th Dec 2017 . The surgery was performed successfully as the cancer in its early stage had been confined to the womb. Sam now has to undergo 4 sessions of Chemo, three weeks apart and then two weeks of internal radiotherapy. Sam is taking all sorts of drugs to combat the sickness and ill health due to the chemo drugs.....but she is a fighter !!!!
As we all know someone who has suffered with various forms of cancer. It is only when it is brought to your own doorstep do you realise how numbing the news is. Bewilderment, fear, upset.....well I could use a hundred more words to describe how I felt.
So.... for something a little different..... I decided not to do Dry January as my birthday was on the 27th !! After I read up on the after effects Sam would have to endure, I decided that I would need to do something to try and make more people aware of not just cancer, but also the effects of excessive alcohol can do to your body. I came up with the idea of Dry Duration. The duration being the length of time Sam is undergoing treatment. So I will stay dry for 12 weeks (started on 2nd Feb 2018), get fitter, and finish at the summit of Mount Snowdon, Wales on the nearest weekend Sam finishes her treatment.
Any and all donations raised will be split between three registered Charities, to be named on completion.
Please donate anything you can, and make more people aware of the effects cancer causes not only to yourselves but the people closest to you.
Many Thanks and please SHARE with as many people as you know !!!
