Story
We met Pius a young man from Uganda when at the 2019 Saintfield Christmas Charity Ride. After hearing his story we wanted to help him in any way we could to achieve his goals.
I told my partner Caroline about the work Pius is doing and she said she would run the Dublin Marathon to raise vital funds for this project, it's on the 25th October 2020. Lots of training and dedication needs to go into this but Caroline is up for it, all 26 miles!! The children in Uganda could walk 8 miles in a day to access education and possibly further for clean water so its very fitting Caroline is going to run the marathon!

Sadly, Pius lost both his parents to Aids when he was only four and his little sister was two. They were both looked after by the community in his village until he took very ill. Rock Ministries took him to Kampala where an operation saved his life. Rock Ministries N.I. trust brought him to Saintfield in 2009 as a member of the Mawamba Choir. The children delighted everyone in Saintfield by singing and dancing on the Main St. and later in the marquee. They all rode in the late George Fawcett's carriages a wonderful experience that Pius would never forget. At that stage he had only just turned 14. He then, with the help and sponsorship from I Am Family Ministries went on to University and is now a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics which has made into an articulate, well qualified young man that he is today.
Pius now works for I Am Family Ministries in Uganda and is the principal of I Am Academy School with 300 orphaned and Needy Children.

His passion and dream is to help change the lives of everyone in the village and community where he was brought up. He explained the first thing needed was clean fresh water. A bore hole is vital!!
The bore hole will cost £7,000.
