Story

ROLLER SKATING FOR STROKE PATIENTS & THEIR REHABILITATION.

I'm raising £350 by roller skating 80 miles from Schiphol to Helmond Sport in the Netherlands on the 15th April 2026.

My name is Ian Chapman & 65yrs years young, over the last decade or more I have helped raise awareness & funds for many Charities & groups in need.

The Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Team on Marsden Ward, at Pendle Community Hospital is very personal to myself, where my Brother-in-Law suffered a stroke while driving his car last year & who is still recieving 1-1 care, a very difficult, worrying period especially for Paul.

Thankfully he has a Mother, Sister & family who are capable of visiting on a regular basis to support & encourage him.

The Team at Pendle offers Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, & Psychology Services. They continually support independence of patients & individual needs to promote recovery.

The Team treated & cared for Paul with dignity & respect, where they also shared laughter, stories, jokes which echoed around the ward, they really did help so much & this is my little way of showing our appreciation for those who cared for him.

I will be doing this with a very good friend Gavin Weir (in the white shirt) 43yrs young & an engineer from Thatcham, who is raising seperate funds for the local Soup Kitchen in Newbury, 4 miles away.

We are also grateful to Dave Burnett, Chris Ashworth & Justin Pate at Casual Minds Matter CIC in Burnley, for letting us use their platform & media outlet in supporting us.

Last year I did various fund raising for different groups ie 8o miles barefoot in the Netherlands for the mental health & well being of ex service men & women, & the Yorkshire 3 peaks barefoot for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Burnley through ELHT&Me.

Both these events were a great success, which raised not just an amazing amount of funding, but loads of awareness thanks to Radio & News coverage outlets, social media and people sharing.

Without you I would have failed in reaching my goals, but we did this together, collectively & as one.

Unfortunately, we are asking again for you to climb on board our journey to help raise awareness & funding for an exceptional cause, the Stroke Unit at Pendle Community Hospital.

Thankyou for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page & together we will make a difference to someones recovery & life.

1❤️ kind Regards Ian
