Story

I struggled with drink and drugs throughout my teens and in my 20s which landed me in prison for 33 months.

I am now a property developer, ultra runner, mountain climber, and caver. I am constantly doing things on a regular basis to try and improve myself physically and mentally.

I am running this ultra to raise money for SILX. This amazing organisation offers free recreational, educational and fun activities to allow young people to grow and develop and offer a safe environment for young people to attend. The young people can take part in a whole host of fun and issued based activities including pool, arts and crafts, healthy cooking, team games, PS5, Jewellery making, nail art, make up sessions, workshops centred around relationships, drugs, alcohol and lots more. As well as working alongside services such as Public Health, Violent reduction unit and the police. The youth workers are available to give advice, support and guidance around any personal issues that may arise.

Silx Employability Project offers a range of support for young people aged 16-25 who are not in employment, education or training. SILX provide free access to laptops, internet and printing facilities. There workers will support young people with creating and updating a CV, doing a job search, completing job application forms, interview preparation, budgeting skills and applying for benefits.

We offer in house CSCS training in partnership with Central Training and young people complete their IOSH safety, health and environment for construction workers qualification, CSCS test and CSCS card. As well as CSCS training we also offer a whole host of FREE online courses in a range of subject areas.

SILX helped myself when I was younger is so many ways. They paid for me to do get cscs card and demolition card which enabled me to start working on building sites when I still do today. I am truly grateful for all the help and support they gave me.
