Story

Ian Deverell, Senior Planning Manager at IM Land has decided to take on a huge personal challenge in August 2023 to cycle the length of Britain from John O' Groats to Lands End (JOGLE). Ian is hoping to raise money and awareness for Cancer Active Recovery Support (CARS) and Cancer Research UK.

Here's why Ian chose to undertake the challenge and more information about the charities he is raising money for:

"Having lost a relative to a very long battle with cancer last year, I have been spurred on to do something momentous in her memory and raise money for national and local charities to help others battling the same fight.

As a keen cyclist I immediately looked at challenges which would push me well outside my comfort zone and landed on the idea of cycling 960 miles over 9 days, self-supported between John O’ Groats and Land’s End (JOGLE). Of course all the pain and discomfort I will experience across the nine days of cycling is nothing compared to what those suffering with cancer experience, underlining the incredible work which both of the charities deliver which I am supporting.

CARS run a valuable local initiative within the East Midlands through their 'In the Pink' Breast Cancer Support Group, which provides a place for women in similar situations to socialise with a focus on rehabilitation through exercise and music classes.

IM Properties have previously supported the In the Pink Breast Cancer Rehabilitation programme with this video summarising the incredible work which they deliver.

The BBC also recently reported on the initiative including a video interview with a member of the group encapsulating the incredible work which is run by the charity.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. They support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses. Their pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives already.

If you would like to support and encourage me in tackling JOGLE in August 2023, please consider donating any amount you can.

I will be sharing regular updates on this page about my training and route planning and wider prep in advance of the ride in August. Thanks for your support!!"
