Story

Ian is running his 100th marathon for MND

I will be running my 100th marathon in Athens on Sunday 9th November. I set myself the target of getting to 100 marathons before my 60th birthday and I’ll be 60, 5 days later.

After nearly 2,620 miles of marathon running, I thought I’d use my 100th to raise money for two members from my local running club (Macclesfield Harriers) who have both recently been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Both Brian and Rob were good club runners who are now having to come to terms with the loss of their mobility and independence. MND causes muscle weakness that gets worse over a few months or years. There’s currently no cure, but treatment can help manage the symptoms.

The money raised will be used to support them and their families to pay for modifications to their homes as they adjust to their symptoms and on-going care. Fundraising offers hope for their families during this incredibly difficult time.

Every penny raised will go towards Brian’s and Rob’s ongoing care so please sponsor me with as much or as little as you can – many thanks, Ian.
