Cycling the Étape du Tour 2026

All funds raised will be split between Edzell Primary School Parent Council and 55th North Angus Edzell Scout Group, helping support the children, activities, and opportunities that are at the heart of our local community.

On 19 July 2026, I’ll be taking on one of the toughest amateur cycling challenges in the world: Stage 20 of the 2026 Tour de France in the French Alps.

The route covers 170 km with a staggering 5,400 metres of climbing, crossing four legendary mountain passes.

The day begins with the Col de la Croix de Fer before tackling the centrepiece of the route: the Col du Télégraphe, which leads straight into the mighty Col du Galibier — more than 35 km of almost continuous climbing, reaching an altitude of 2,642 metres. The challenge finishes with the iconic ascent of Alpe d’Huez, approached via the rarely used Col de Sarenne.
