Story
When you learn that a friend and colleague's 3 year old son is battling cancer, in the form a brain tumour, it stops you in your tracks.
But like so many others have done, my son, Noah and I decided to get motivated, do something challenging and meaningful and in doing so raise some funds and help create awareness for Miles for Mitchie, the charity.
During the Summer me and Noah have done:
First Trail Half Marathon in North Yorkshire 16th July
Both got our heads shaved in 21st July
Noah completes his 10th Park Run 23rd Sept
I will run the Chester Marathon 8th Oct
Plenty of hardwork and commitment, but nothing compared to the challenge faced by Mitch and his loving family and friends.
A few words from Tony, Mitch's dad:
"Mitch was diagnosed with an aggressive Medulloblastoma in the first week of January 2017. He had a 10 hour operation to remove the bulk of the tumour the next day, and then began his 6 weeks of brutal radiotherapy treatment to try and eradicate the cancers in the rest of his brain and spine. A necessary treatment to try and save his life, but damaging to his brain and internal organs in ways that we will only find out as the years progress. He then had 4 months of chemotherapy, lifesaving but evil in it's own way, damaging further his hearing and making him so very sick. Now 9 months on Mitch finished his chemotherapy a couple of months ago and we had a lumbar puncture to test the fluid in his spine, an MRI to see what was happening in his brain and on his spine where there had previously been clusters of cancer and a test to see if his kidney function was normal following the radiotherapy. The test results came back and we were called in to the Manchester Children's hospital to be told the outcome.
After a 3 hour wait, we were advised that Mitch had NO SIGNS OF DISEASE left in his brain, on his spine or in his spinal fluid. His kidney was functioning correctly. This was the best news we could have received. Amazing given where we were on 3rd January this year, and the odds we were given of getting to this stage. We still have a long road ahead, as there has been permanent brain damage and hearing loss but the amount of damage will only be revealed as he grows. He also has plenty of physio required to get walking again, but we can deal with all of this."
We are proud to help support, Miles for Mitchie, please try and support Noah and me.
