Story

My name is Levi (this is my mums Just Giving account) and I am 12. Earlier this year I travelled to Jamaica to discover and learn about where my grandfather came from.

While I was there, I visited Watt Town All Ages School in Watt Town, Jamaica (that's me in the white T-shirt in the picture). Watt Town School was warm, fun, friendly and focussed upon education, however the facilities were far less modern and sophisticated that what I am used to at my own school here in England.

I noticed that there were no computers, no tablets, no whiteboards, no ICT equipment at all for the children to use. I realised that this meant that, unlike me, the children couldn't learn how to use computers. They have no ICT equipment to do their work, or watch educational videos, play games, use the internet, learn to use a keyboard, nothing!

It made me think...what job opportunities will these kids have when they leave school if they don't know how to use computers or the internet? I use computers every day, for work and play, I know how to search the internet when I need to find something out, I can write basic computer programmes, create games, choose my birthday and Christmas presents, play video games, use websites, draw, edit, all-sorts!

I have decided that I'd like to try to raise some money for Watt Town All Ages School, to provide some ICT equipment that the children can use to gain all the ICT skills and uses that I have taken for granted. This way, the children at Watt Town School will have the chance to leave school with the ICT skills and experience needed to get lots of different jobs when they get older.

Please help me to raise some money to buy some computers and/or tablets so that the school can create a small ICT suite.

Thank you, Levi
