Story
My name is Ife Chase and I am a Basketball coach based in East London. I have been coaching for 7 years and have fallen in love with both playing basketball and coaching. I love and cherish the sport because of the positive mental, social and physical impact it has on all the players.
Being raised by a single mother and growing up in Hackney, my life could have lead towards so many negative outcomes. At certain points in my childhood I was exposed to violence and anti-social behaviour. Basketball allowed me to escape, meet good friends and keep my interest away from the street life.
Till this day, I meet many young adults who go through the same dilemma's and it hurts me as I see more and more young people fall to the streets. Through basketball I want to support the younger generations by teaching them a variation of transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, respect, problem solving, sportsmanship, confidence, patience as well as providing them with coaching and mentoring. I strongly believe that with these skills, young people are more likely to make the right choices for themselves.
My plan is to continue to run a Basketball programme open to ages from 5-18 years for next summer. I'm looking to start at the end June 2020. To achieve the goal, I hope to raise funds of £800 which will go towards Venue time, purchasing equipment, covering insurance, hiring other coaches and providing refreshments for every participant that attends. All donations will be going towards a great cause. Thank you for any amount you give.
