Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
Ikota is a slum settlement in the Ajah area of Lagos, residents are the remnants of those forcibly evicted in the infamous demolition of Maroko, by the Lagos State Government, in the 1990s. The Charity, Path to Possibilities has been working in this area for the last six years - sponsoring its young people through secondary school. We can't sponsor all the children of Ikota, but we can establish a library and computer centre which children can access and use for free.
I am passionate about this project because I have seen first hand what little resources is available to the children living in Ikota. For the past six years I have visited Ikota and worked and engaged with the local children. This library will alleviate the burden on their parents who currently have to pay for them to use the internet, it will give them access to books they simply can't afford and unavailable in their schools. The library will also provide a conducive learning environment.
We will update supporters as each item is delivered into the building and as we renovate to get the building ready. We are scheduled to take possession of the building on 1 March 2016. We will upload images from mid March right through the completion of the project.
We have negotiated and rented a building.
The costs below are close estimates, unfortunately due to the fluctuating currency (Naira), there is likely to be some more than usual fluctuations.
Painting of the building - £300
