The Problem:

A secure fence line is a wildlife conservancy’s first line of defense. It keeps wildlife in and protected, and helps keeps trespassers, poachers, and unwanted animals (e.g.: domesticated livestock and hunting dogs) out.

Our fence line is 50 kilometres long. Currently, it is an outdated design of wooden poles holding up a 2.2 metre high electrified, equally spaced, horizontal line wire hinge joint called "bonnox" fencing. Unfortunately, the wooden droppers have been destroyed by ants and create constant issues when they inevitably fall. Breeches in the fence line are disastrous.

We spend huge amounts of scarce resources including time, labour and fuel replacing these old wooden droppers and repairing damaged fence line.

The Solution:

Over the years we have tried every conceivable treatment for the timber poles with no success. Ultimately, the best solution is to replace all wooden poles with steel. This is a costly exercise but one that will last lifetimes.

We want to install a steel round pole every 25 metres and a steel "W" standard every 5 metres using our existing "bonnox" fence between. There would be 1 "H" straining post every 100 metres for added durability and strength.

The Costs:

The cost of replacing 1 kilometre of fence currently costs $2665.00 USD.

Each kilometre of fence consists of the following:

10 x "H" Post @ $46 each = $460.00

40 x Steel Round Poles @ $16.50 each = $660.00

200 x Steel "W" standards @ $6.80 each = $1360.00

Tying wire 3 kgs @ $2.50 per kg = $7.50

3 kgs of Welding Rods @ $4 a kg = $12.00

3 x "9" inch steel cutting discs @ $5 each = $15.00

5 litres Steel Primer @ $35/ 5 litres Admiral Grey Enamel @ $60 = $95.00

5 x bags PC 15 Cement = $55.00

What do I get?

The stretch of fence line you donated towards will include the fencing poles with your initials steel stamped on. We will send you a picture of your fitted fence posts as well as the GPS coordinates of exactly where your fence length is and the little piece of paradise you are protecting!
