Story

David Mattin 19th september 1931- 2nd of february 2021.
A beautiful gentleman, cherished to the end by his loving wife Barbara and family.
Starting out at 19 and 24 years old with your life infront of you, with dreams and ambitions to fulfill, you dont think ahead to the health challenges you may face in the later years of your life.
David was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in the late 90’s soon to be followed by severe hearing loss. This soon changed not only his life but Barabara’s too.
If this wasnt enough David was then diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2016 which progressed and for his remaining years robbed him of his mobility and independance.
However as the true gentlman David is remembered for he accepted his lot without ever a complaint. Barbara has cared for and supported him to make those final years as special as they could be, whilst both just venturing into their 60th year of marriage.
David and Barbara recieved other outside support through these later years in the form of the Huddersfield Macular Society and Parkinsons UK with its amazing On Song choir based in Huddersfield. These wonderful groups provided socialisation and emotional support for both David and Barbara, as its so important to remember that the carer also requires care! Many concerts, christmas dinners, coach trips out have been enjoyed with both the groups and thier ongoing support had been invaluable.
In January following a short illness David and his family recieved first class support and care from the Marie Curie Fast Track Team in Kirklees. This was following his discharge home from hospital for 12 very special days. On top of the physical care provided by the team they excelled with their emotional support to the wider family.
With all this said Barbara has decided that any donations kindly made in David’s memory will be divided between the Huddersfield Macular Society, On Song the Huddersfield Parkinson Choir and the Marie Curie Fast Track Service in Kirklees.
Thank you for taking time to read this page we are so grateful, kindest regards from Barbara, Paul and Julia
