Story
Papa Joe McGill had a passion for football and people, and anyone who met him could see this straight away. He started refereeing at just 14 years old, and continued until he was 79. Not even a stroke and a quadruple heart by-pass could stop this wee man in his tracks! Papa Joe passed away peacefully on 27th February 2019, age 88 years.
Papa Joe encouraged and inspired so many people within the football community. He was forever keen to introduce the world of refereeing to all, and was a life-time member of Ayrshire Referees Association. One of his wishes was to ensure that refereeing was accessible to all, and our family would like to support new referees by raising funds in his memory. Ayrshire Referees Association have kindly agreed to accept any funds raised in the memory of Papa Joe McGill, and use it to support and develop new referees.
There will be an opportunity to make a donation at his funeral, however we understand that not everyone will be able to attend but may still wish to make a contribution. Any donation would be most welcome and appreciated.
Thank you to all,
Wendy Monteforte (Papa Joe's daughter) on behalf of his family
