Story

Clair sadly passed away on Saturday 13th June 2026 at the age of 59, a day before her 60th birthday. She leaves behind a legacy of courage and kindness that touched everyone who knew her.

Clair was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 14 and whilst her diabetes had been well controlled the disease had a profound effect on her life. At the age of 21 Clair had cataract surgery in both eyes, much more treatment on her eyes would follow with her having Glaucoma Drainage Implants and ultimately Corneal transplants in both eyes. Whilst Clair worked hard to keep herself fit and her diabetes well managed the effects continued to have an effect on daily life with a live related kidney transplant in 2001 and a Pancreas Transplant in 2019. Clair suffered lots of other conditions that she took in her stride.

Clair packed her life full of great things and one of her greatest joys was becoming a mum to Will in 1998. She supported him through school, college and university with unwavering love and pride, she was the most wonderful mum and never ever discussed her illness or the effects it was having on her with anyone other than me.

In 2006 following the passing of her father, Bill, of Motor Neurone Disease, Clair decided to focus on raising much needed funds into MND Research and arranged The Motiva Ball which was to become one of the highlights of the Staffordshire social calendar. It was really only covid and Clair’s worsening health that meant that the Ball had to end, at that point Clair had raised in excess of £140k for MND. Clair then took up a volunteer role with the MND supporting sufferers and their carers.

Clair lived a selfless life which considering her own health challenges is remarkable, whilst her primary charity was MND she was always more than willing to support any other charity in any way she could, raising money for Dougie Mac and UHNS Charities.

We want to honour Clair’s incredible spirit by continuing the work she cared so deeply about.

All donations made will support two charities

• Diabetes UK — supporting research and care for the condition Clair lived with so bravely

• Motor Neurone Disease Association — a cause close to her heart

Thank you for your donation in Clair’s memory!
