Story

As a family, we have personally encountered the impact that Covid-19 has on the lives of patients admitted to hospital with this terrible virus. Our mother was one of those patients admitted to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee on 01/01/2021. She was transferred early to the Covid High Dependency Unit where the doctors and nurses did everything within their power to help her battle the virus but, sadly, she passed away on 20/01/2021.

Thankfully, our mother had her tablet with her in hospital and, with the help of the nursing staff, we were able to communicate with her on a daily basis through the use of video chat to help encourage her and keep her spirits up. Her tablet also helped relieve some of the boredom associated with being admitted to hospital.

Sadly, at present, video chats are the only way that families are able to see and hear their relatives when they are admitted to a Covid ward or other Covid facility. It truly was a lifeline to be able to communicate with our own mother by video chat and, thankfully, Ninewells Hospital provide patient wifi which is free to use and connect to.

Not all patients own a tablet or, sadly, are able to afford a tablet to use and we, as a family, wish to raise some funds in memory of our mother to purchase some tablets for the Covid High Dependency Unit to enable all patients the opportunity to video chat with their families whilst they are in hospital.

We truly are grateful to everyone who wishes to donate to this cause.

Love

Dougie, David, Marc & Deborah
