Story
My mom's homeless friend Ian passed away this week at the age of 32. Let me paint you a picture of how amazing this person was:
Even though he had had it hard in life he found himself on the streets through no fault of his own, and was out there for 4 years. He had every reason to be cold and bitter over his circumstances but he wasn't.
He would look after and protect the vulnerable in our community from career beggars and pickpockets, the other week he even saved a mans life! even though he had DVT and was in pain himself most days.
He said he felt blessed in life that so many people cared for him...and that hits me hard that someone who literally has nothing, and has had such a hard time in life feels blessed. He literally was the most genuine person.
My mom worked hard for years to try and help get him sorted and as you may remember she and her friends succeeded in finding him somewhere to stay recently.
He was like an adopted son to her, and even called her mom. Every day she would go and see him and they would have a coffee and a chat and talk about his future and being able to spend time with his daughter again.
Alas this wasn't to be as poor Ian went to the hospital as he didn't feel well, was told he needed to rest and was sent back out onto the streets. He then died a few days later ...alone, of Sepsis and a massive heart attack. I can't even bring myself to tell you where he died, because its just too heartbreaking and no one in life deserves that.
Every system in place to help him failed him, the community even begged our MP and he did nothing. It seems like there's a lot of help for the homeless but there isn't. If any of those systems worked he would still be here now.
The community are putting flowers where he used to sit, and someone keeps stealing them, they even stole his hat! And I just can't stand the fact that even in death he still has nothing and is robbed of everything.
I'm asking you to please help my mom in being able to give Ian a proper funeral so she and everyone who cared for him can see him off right, even if it's a £1 it will mean the world to me and her and allow us to just make sure that for once... he's done by right :'(
Thank you x
