Dear Friends of Inscription,
In 2020, we founded Inscription: the Journal of Material Text – Theory, Practice, History and now we are on issue 6. It’s a journal that explores material texts via new works of art, critical essays, fiction, and poetry and the next issue will be a characteristically maximal exploration of cuts and tears. Our first 3 issues have completely sold out and we only have a few copies of the rest.
Inscription is a labour of love (lots), and of time (even more). None of us make any money from the journal: all income from subscriptions is put directly back in to Inscription. But increasingly we need additional funds to cover the impact of inflation on production costs and to enable us to continue making beautiful issues – issues that are both explorations of material texts, and artists’ books in their own right.
From the outset we have benefited from the generous support of Leeds Beckett University but now we would like to broaden our network of supporters and encourage you to join us in the Inscription journey. We are trying to raise at least £10,000 from new donors and, thanks to a generous UK donor we are already half way there. All donations will be welcomed and all donors will be acknowledged in the journal.
