I've raised £15000 to To run our Theatre group for Deaf and hearing adults in Birmingham for 1 year.

InteGreat Theatre is a Birmingham based community theatre company for Deaf and hearing adults. A few years ago we took a break, however after reforming to put on a tribute performance to a member who sadly passed away, it has ignited the fire in our bellies to start up again so InteGreat Theatre is BACK!!
We created this appeal video of a signsong version of 'This is me' to help raise awareness of our group and the valuable work we do. Please click blue writing to watch, Signsong 'This is me' please like and share!
Deaf people can face many barriers in their lives, with access, communication, understanding. We create a space where there are no barriers. InteGreat is open to people of any age, race, sexuality or ability. You do not need any previous experience of drama and you do not need to sign to join our group. Everybody is equal and we encourage and support members to achieve the best they can possibly give. Our member are diverse and unique our eldest member is in her late 70's and our youngest member is in their early 20's. One of our members is a wheel chair user and one of our members doesn't have a language but uses mime to communicate. The communication needs in our group are also diverse, we have hearing members that know sign language and hearing members that don't. We have deafened people, Deaf people who are full bsl users with speech and full bsl users without speech. As far as we are aware no other drama group provides an interpreter so immediately limits Deaf people accessing others drama groups sessions. We need to carry on our sessions so people feel included and not isolated, we have developed a strong bond and the group now feels like we are a family. This is the gap that InteGreat theatre fills by building that bridge between the 2 communities. This ultimately achieves our aim of integration and promoting the use and learning of sign language. Deaf people can do anything apart from learn to hear, however hearing people can learn to sign to make the world a more inclusive place for us all to live without barriers.
We now need to raise the funds to run our much needed and enjoyable project. The money raised will enable us to run our weekly sessions to create and put on a performance to the public each year. The money raised will directly benefit the group by providing the necessary provisions to run the group. The biggest expense we have to find is to pay for the fully qualified sign language interpreters we have at each session and the performances. The interpreters provide smooth communication for the group in order for everyone to be able to access the sessions for both the Deaf and hearing members. In addition to that we need costs to cover, room hire, volunteer expenses, set, props and costume, Theatre and technician hire, facilitator costs, promotion and publicity, insurance etc
