Story
We are the most recent IOM constabulary intake of 2022 consisting of 9 students and we want to give back to our local community to a charity that helps individuals through difficult periods in their lives of which we will come into contact with many times during over careers. Mental health can affect anyone & shouldn't be overlooked, lets show our support and give back because it could be any one of us who needs their service in the future.
We've also decided to donate half of the money raised to the refugees in Ukraine who as we all know are going through an awful time and need support from everyone around the world. Our hearts go out to them.
We're all taking part in The Great Manx Run in which all the proceeds of entering go to Isle Listen & The Children's Centre. Some of us will be partaking in the relay (6 miles per leg), 1 mile fun run. Collectively we will run 30 miles and we're also helping with putting course signs out in preparation and assisting on food stations too. All of which we will do while sporting some interesting police attire. It's going to be a fantastic day for all and what a great way to raise some money for well deserving charities!
A bit more about Isle Listen - 'As a charity, we have provided specialist psychological support since 1983. MCH Psychological Services, (formerly The Lisa Lowe Centre and Manx Cancer Help), of which Isle Listen is a trading name, has developed many qualities. These include resilience, professionalism, tenacity, thrift, incomparable team spirit and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to change in line with the identified needs of our community. We had long been aware of the difficulties faced by people trying to access mental health support, either for themselves or for their children. We were keen to utilise our expertise and experience to address this and began researching how best to tackle an ever-increasing issue which affected people of all ages and causing overwhelming demand on the statutory services.'
