Weʼve raised £13,937 to support the staff of Ipswich Hospital at work during the COVID19 crisis.

Funded on Tuesday, 9th June 2020

    Story

The country is currently in crisis responding to the Coronavirus/COVID19 outbreak and hospitals all around the country are working under tremendous stress to protect those we love and hold nearest and dearest.

Ipswich Hospital for many of us will be our local place of care and many of us equally will have friends, family, loved ones working in the centre of its crisis.

Daniel Newman & Amanda Todd have set up this JustGiving fund to raise money for the staff of Ipswich Hospital to support them whilst at work.

Many of them are working long and tiring hours in a highly stressful Environment doing duties they never imagined they would have to do. Many are being redeployed into new areas and having to do tasks that aren't the 'norm'.

Many staff are struggling to eat or drink during shifts. Hospital snacks are brought round and staff cant pay using cash due to the risk. They are also wearing PPE making it difficult to 'shop'. Equally many of these snack rounds visit during critical times of day leaving staff unable to use them.

We would like to fund raise to purchase and provide daily/weekly care package drops of essentials to energise, feed and clean our wonderful NHS workers. Chocolate, cereal bars, drinks, snacks, all individually wrapped, all safe to eat, all giving a much needed boost but more importantly FREE to staff and readily available.

We would also like to purchase deodorant, shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste etc for the staff who need to shower and wash at work pre and post shift.

We would also like to use the fund to pay for material to donate to the community to sew and make hospital scrubs. Many people have offered to sew, yet few can afford to buy the materials, we hope to fix that.

In addition to providing PPE in the form of scrubs we would like to be able to assist in procuring and producing 3D printed PPE face shields and ear saver supplies. As most of the country struggles to buy approved PPE, hospital and care settings are moving to the acceptance of 3D printed masks.

We are also exploring the requirement of kettles, microwaves for staff to heat food where appropriate (albeit we seek hospital clarification on that before we can begin).

We would not like to take physical item donations due to the logistical nightmare collecting and delivering small quantities and for the need to reduce social content and so a larger monetary fund will allow for a centralised purchase and individual deliveries at pre determined times.

We cannot work for them, we cannot hug them, we cannot keep them safe, but we sure can keep them fed and watered and let them know that people care.

Please donate what you can and support your local hospital and your local NHS.

    Thank you

    Daniel (Danny) & Amanda (Toddy)

At this moment of writing on Thursday 14th May we have approximately £2000 left available to us. We are aware that the current situation within the hospital means that many of the areas that were 'COVID Red' are now no longer in use and are back to being 'green' areas. That said a number of key infected areas still exist. Liaising with hospital staff, we are also aware they do not require any further water at this time (we provided 18,000). We will look to provide further food deliveries if required in the coming days as they have requested.

During our social media updates, many of our donors asked us to remember the staff working at outreach stations alongside hospital staff. Many staff at these locations are originally Ipswich Hospital staff relocated during the crisis. We ensured a donation was made to Bluebird Lodge, Landseer Roads REACT team and both the IP3 & IP4 community nursing team. These donations consisted of bottled water and hand creams.
