Story

Hi, my name is lqra Hussain; and i've been living with complex post traumatic stress disorder for (what feels like) my whole life. After facing a painfully traumatic experience of repeated childhood sexual abuse and assault from ages 8 to 11 years old, from somewhere i trusted; I have felt the debilitating symptoms of this mental illness since. From extreme mood swings of physical and verbal aggression, along with feelings of helplessness and hyperventilation from emotional triggers (activating my fight or flight response); to frequent flashbacks and PTSD panic attacks from intrusive thoughts and sensory triggers, have left me feeling exhausted with attempting to cope and move forward in life. As a result of my episodes, i have experienced suicidal tendencies and attempts since 15 years old; having overdosed on different medication and ingesting acetone on one occassion; attempting to end my life. This assistance dog will allow me to continue with my plans to study at university; bringing the trained assistance dog alongside me to not only help manage my ptsd symptoms, but also keep me grounded and safe from my own suicidal thoughts and feelings. My frequent attempts to find a minimum wage job for the past few months have not been successful, if you could please find it in your hearts to help me fund for this dog, a lifeline in my mental health journey, i would greatly appreaciate it. Thank you.
