Story

My name is Iqra and I’m a disabled care leaver. I have Spina Bifida and I’m confined to a wheelchair.

I was taken into foster care when I was 15 years old.

My circumstances around this time affected my education. Which led to poor exam results.

My GCSE results were terrible. I remember feeling ashamed of myself. Where was my life going?

Statistics show that only 6% of care leavers make it to university.

I am now included in that 6%

I‘m now 23 and graduated last year. I have a Multimedia Journalism degree.

The final step in my journey is to complete a masters. Broadcast Journalism is what I want to study.

“It isn’t where you come from; it‘s where you‘re going that counts” - Ella Fitzgerald

But I need some help. A postgraduate degree is something I won’t be able to fund independently.

Unlike many other students I don‘t have anyone to rely on financially. But I’m not going to give up.

A student loan will not cover both my course and living expenses. The target I hope to raise will pay for my course.

Thank you :)
