I've raised £4000 to Create a Database for Irish Setter Health Issues.Only by sharing knowledge can we hope to improve the health of this wonderful breed

It seems so unfair that such a beautiful, loving breed as the Irish Setter is beset by health issues. We want to create a database that will help unravel the mysteries and give the general public a chance to tell their dog's story. We want breeders to join together and share the good news of longevity and proven good health in their dogs as well as share the resource of verified testing. At a glance we want you to be able to research the health status to make an informed choice about buying a puppy or using a dog at Stud or even whether it is a good idea to breed from your bitch.Research has been done by individuals but this will be a database that anyone can upload to and share information. There will be three administrators who will check that the information supplied is accurate before the information is published, this isn't about rumour mongering, it is about proven and veterinary verified information being available to all.
All pedigree breeds of dogs have a list of genetic problem areas, that doesn't mean that a cross breed is any healthier , it's just that with a pedigree dog you can research to find your very best chance of a healthy pet if there are known issues within the breed.
We want our companion Irish Setters around us for the longest time possible, it is always too early to say goodbye at any age but by opening up this resource we all have a better chance of an Irish Setter with a long and healthy life.
